EP. 18: Dr. Robert j. buchanan

Dr Buchanan is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas and the director of epilepsy surgery and deep brain stimulation at Seton Brain and Spine Institute located in Austin, Texas. He is also the Chief of Neurosurgery at Seton Family of hospitals as well as the Chief of Neurosurgery at the Seton Brain and Spine Institute. 

In addition to being a neurosurgeon, Dr Buchanan is also a psychiatrist and he was appointed by Pope Benedict to serve on the Vatican's International Bioethics Committee.

Dr. Buchanan grew up on the south side of Chicago and admired many priests who consecrated their lives to serving God's people. He decided to enter medical school and devote his life to clinical work and research.

Buchanan performs surgery for epilepsy, movement, disorders, pain, and psychiatric disease. In his research laboratories at UT Austin and Brackenridge Hospital, he studies the brain's chemical and electrical systems.
